Stub vs. Not-Stub
[edit]Great post! Apparently anything more than a paragraph is a short article, but not a stub. So you're a-okay. Welcome! jengod 04:10, Feb 16, 2004 (UTC)
Primates
[edit]Thanks for jumpng in on sme of the Primate pages. Want to list yourself as a contributor to the Project? - UtherSRG 06:16, 20 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- I'd like to, but I don't know if I want the responsiblity :) I'd rather contribute unofficially for now :) --Mishac 06:21, 20 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Hi Mishac, nice to meet you. About the primate project links: I removed them because Wikipedia article space is devoted entirely to the subject matter itself. Links to things like the WikiProjects go through the talk pages. So it's not that the promate project links are wrong, just that they are in the wrong place.
Now you are probably scratching your head just now and wondering where the sense in that is. It's discussed at length on a Wikiproject talk page somewhere. Hang on, I'll try to find it. ... Yes, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Tree of Life. I'll quote Mav from it - that should give you the idea.
- these links will only be useful to Wikipedia editors. They are at best useless and at worst distracting for readers -- especially readers who are reading a non-editable version of the article (which includes nearly every single downstream user - except Wikipedia forks). Best then to just put the links at the top of talk pages (where actual editors hang out to discuss how to improve the article - part of that is conformance to the WikiProject it falls under). No reason to expose readers to the guts of the article creation process. That is metadata and that is what talk pages are for (notice that talk pages are not linked from the body text of articles either).
Anyway, the long and the short of it is that the links belong to the talk space, not the article space. Apart from that, they are fine.
But while I'm at it, let me mention two other things. First, a repeat of Uther's invitation to join the project. No minimum level of commitment is required, you can do as much or as little as you please, and the moral support is always welcome. But it's no big deal - contribute formally or informally, either way it's welcome.
Second, a more general remark about taxoboxes: the aim, in broad, is to keep them as short and tidy as possible. Burdening them with extra cells is to be avoided unless that info is really important. My own belief is that we should have an additional cell in all the taxoboxes, but that that cell should report the conservation status of the creature. (Or the plant, as appropriate.) But that's just my point of view. As time goes by I hope to persuade other editors to agree on this one, and given a consensus in favour, we can implement it. But I won't be doing anything unless there is general agreement first.
Cheers -- Tannin 10:45, 20 Feb 2004 (UTC)
PS: I guess someone should change the WikiProject page. -- T
Hi Mishac, Thanks for pointing me to the primates project. The article on Catarrhini was my first edit ever in the wikipedia, i wasn't aware of the project then. Next time i'll use the search function before i edit wildly :-)). Lady Tenar
